Computer Applications and software

A Computer application is a piece of software that allows you to become productive when working on a computer.

Quite simply, applications are software.

Types of applications:

  • word processing: Word
  • spreadsheets: Excel
  • presentation: PowerPoint
  • databases: Access, FileMaker Pro
  • utilities: Norton Utilities, all virus protection programs
  • games: too many to list!
  • education: encyclopedias, typing programs, reading and math programs, learn to golf, etc.
  • graphics: PaintShop, Illustrator, Freehand, Pagemaker, Quark Express, AutoCAD
  • communications: Eudora (e-mail), Outlook Express (e-mail), Internet Explorer (Web browser), Netscape Navigator (Web browser)
  • Web development: Fireworks, Flash, FrontPage, Dreamweaver
